Opportunities for you to volunteer
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
-- Charles Dickens
Lighten someone’s burden this holiday season. For more info about the following opportunities, contact Dalia Place at (919) 613-4515 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
-- Help out as an Angel Tree Distribution Elf this week. Families will be picking up gifts between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
-- Housing for New Hope is having a Holiday Party for their families on Dec. 19. Prepare food or serve at the party!
-- The Santa Train at the Museum of Life and Science runs until Dec. 22. Help out by serving hot cocoa, staffing a craft table or loading at the train station.
-- Do you have admin skills? Help out in the office of The Land Loss Prevention Project so that the staff can use their time more efficiently. Their office is near the Downtown YMCA and the Durham Center for Senior Life.
-- Or if you live in northern Durham, share your admin skills at the Hock Family Pavilion or the Duke HomeCare & Hospice office.
-- Carolina Villages needs kind-hearted, occasional volunteers to help older adults in Chapel Hill and Carrboro remain in their own homes as long as possible. Basic help includes things like changing a light bulb, moving a piece of furniture or driving a senior to an appointment.
-- The kitchen at the Interfaith Council of Social Services needs food to supplement the meals they serve. Fix a casserole and help out during a week night.
-- Become a Boomerang tutor for the new semester in 2014. Boomerang is an organization that helps provide short-term-suspended middle and high school students with a supervised and positive environment during their time away from school.
-- Do you have a caring heart for families of children with cancer? Become a volunteer in our Ronald McDonald Family Room on the 7th floor of the N.C. Children’s Hospital.
-- Would you like to help the animals at the Paws4Ever animal shelter, but don't want to get attached? Help out by volunteering at the Paws4Ever ReSale Store.
