Want to volunteer? Here are some area opportunities

-- Find out about volunteer opportunities in our area by attending a General Volunteer Orientation on Thursday 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro. Other partners present will be the Arc of Orange County and Kidzu Childrens Museum.

-- Would you like to help save our landfills by helping people recycle and reuse? Find out how you can get involved at the Scrap Exchange by attending a Volunteer Orientation on June 15 at 1:30 pm.

-- Do you like sorting clothes and finding treasures? Help out at the Thrift Store for the Salvation Army.

-- Do you make trips to Raleigh? Help teachers by picking up donations from the Raleigh JoAnn’s Fabrics and bring them to Crayons2Calculators.

-- Summer crops are beginning to yield veggies and fruits. Help glean fields for the homeless with the Society of St. Andrews.

-- Do you enjoy arranging flowers? Join the Salvation Army as they deliver flowers to nursing homes and hospitals on Friday mornings.

-- Make a difference in the life of a senior at Camellia Gardens by taking time to visit. Volunteers are needed to provide one-on-one visits with residents who generally do not attend group activities. 

-- Do you have a heart for survivors of domestic violence? Would you like to have an impact of the life of others in crises? Consider being a Hotline Advocate with the Compass Center.

-- Are you retired or between jobs? Pitch in with admin work in the office of the ArtsCenter of Carrboro.
