Volunteer of the Week
Sojourners Sunday School Class
Watts Street Baptist Church
Volunteers for 13 years
Once a month, every month without fail, volunteers from the Sojourners Sunday School Class at Watts Street Baptist Church have been feeding the hungry. They have provided more than 20,000 meals for Urban Ministries. Some food even comes from the church garden.
In addition to the hearty fare, they serve up commitment, caring and community, bringing volunteers face to face with those they help. They also give the professional staff time to focus on working with their clients. Because the Sojourners back up their dedication with solid organizational skills, they’ve been able to provide meals year after year for approximately $1 a meal.
In addition, this group works to build community in the church by including newcomers, old-timers and everyone in between, and by giving the entire congregation opportunities to help.
Thank you, Sojourners, for your tremendous compassion and dedication!
