Exploring Durham

Nov. 02, 2013 @ 11:44 AM

Throughout November, Exploring Durham will feature articles about some of Durham’s largest and most unusual retail areas.

One of Durham’s unique shopping areas is located along several blocks of Ninth Street, which houses funky shops, bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Ninth Street and the surrounding area are a link between Duke University’s East and West campuses, as well as Duke’s Central campus where the Sarah P. Duke Gardens are located.

Shoppers strolling down Ninth Street will experience the buzzing student energy as they duck into a local bar while also savoring the neighborhood friendliness as they toss a dollar in the case of a haphazard street musician.  This is an ideal location for finding one-of-a-kind gifts for friends and family.

Ninth Street recently got a face-lift on the western side of the street with the addition of the Circle on Ninth Apartments, a newly opened Hilton Garden Inn, a number of new restaurants, retail stores and a Harris Teeter grocery store. While Ninth Street retains its unique soul, it has been updated for a modern future.

Durham features twp malls, 35 shopping centers and numerous specialty boutiques, antique stores and authentic country stores.  For a full list visit www.durham-nc.com

Insider Tip: Street parking is available along Ninth Street or in several nearby surface lots.
