Exploring Durham

There’s nothing common about Common Ground Theatre
Mar. 15, 2014 @ 10:50 AM

From improvisational comedy and experimental theater to polished productions of well-known works, theaters in Durham offer a wide variety of experiences for residents and visitors alike.  In fact, Durham has so many options to view performing arts that it’s easy to miss some of the smaller hidden gems that hold quality productions.

Common Ground Theatre Company is just such a theater. The website notes that it is “A small space where big things happen,” and that’s pretty accurate.  The venue is an intimate black-box that transforms and draws attendees into the production.

Inside the 2,300-square-foot white building with a red door, the theatre has 960 square feet of performance space. Common Ground features flexible seating for more than 55 people, a lobby, box office, dressing room and plentiful parking.

While the space is cool, it’s the programming at Common Ground that makes it worth a visit. Performances feature acts from local and regional artists including classic theater, satire, improvisation, comedy and poetry. In addition to performances, Common Ground hosts classes, rehearsals and events. Visit www.cgtheatre.com for more information on upcoming events and shows. Their performances are listed on the Durham Community Event Calendar, as well.  It is online at www.DurhamEvent Calendar.com.

Did You Know?  In addition to performing arts, Common Ground Theater also offers classes to the community including theatre and yoga classes.

The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is Durham’s official marketing agency.
