Cancer awareness topic of program
The Durham Silhouettes of Durham Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity hosted a breast cancer awareness program Oct. 14 at the Kappas of Durham Community Center.
Gracie Rogers, president of the Silhouettes, was on hand with moderators Lucy Lincoln and Carmen Dorsey. Panelists were Valarie Worth, president of Sisters Network Triangle of NC and Julia Williams-Davis (center), a member of Sisters Network.
Worthy spoke on the benefits of mammography and her personal experiences with breast cancer. William- Davis, a 23 -year survivor of breast cancer reaches out to help others battle breast cancer.
The lighting of the Candle of Hope ceremony was conducted by Betty Jones. This ceremony ignites the hope of breast cancer survivors. A portrait of African women, "Spread the word about mammography," owned by Sylvia Black, was displayed. Earnstine Boyd and Iris Layne were the coordinators for this program.
