-- Do you enjoy visiting with others? Become a Friendly Visitor with the Volunteer Center and bring joy to someone else’s day! Visit with a disabled or senior referred by DSS.
-- Are you an artist or musician? Be a camp counselor for the Summer Arts Camps at the Durham Arts Council. Help out one week or several weeks. Themes include “Fabulous ’50s,” the “Renaissance” and countries such as Iceland, Morocco and China. Contact Erin at email@example.com.
-- Help move furnishings into a new home. Strong back and caring heart are all that is needed. Housing for New Hope is trying to move a family from homelessness to home every week.
-- Do you have experience cheerleading? Help out at a one-day cheerleading clinic June 29.
-- Do you know someone from 18-24 who would be a great counselor for three days? The Youth Advocates Institute meets at NCCU in July and needs volunteer counselors to make it a great experience. College students can get college credit.
-- Would you like to spend a week in the Dominican Republic? The Global Leadership Institute is taking a “Freedom’s Story Study Tour” – stay in the homes of locals and visit the site of historic murals. Attend the interest meeting June 29, at 10 a.m. A great opportunity for homeschoolers!
-- Or maybe you would like to go to Honduras for a service project. Change the Triangle is having an interest meeting June 26, at 7 p.m. at HUB Raleigh. (711 Hillsborough St., Ste. 230, Raleigh)
-- Do you enjoy watching movies on the lawn? Help with Chapel Hill’s Locally Grown Rooftop movies and music series on Thursdays this summer.
-- Hotline Advocates are the first contact with clients when they come into the Compass Center or call Compass Center’s 24-hour domestic violence hotline. Help make that first impression one of caring and empathy.
