12-year-old found in Chapel Hill
A 12-year-old boy missing for nearly 24 hours in Chapel Hill is now home safe.
The boy, Simon Bruckert, was with his mother in the area of Whole Foods Store on South Elliot Road Monday about 3 p.m.
“They had some issues, and he stormed off,” said Sgt. Josh Mecimore of the Chapel Hill Police Department.
Bruckert did not return to the store, so the mother went home, Mecimore said.
“I think she expected him to show ... back up,” Mecimore said.
Police hadn't suspected foul play and thought the boy probably spent the night at a friend’s house, Mecimore said.
“We don’t think there’s any reason to believe any thing other than that,” Mecimore said.
