Chapel Hill Buzz: Construction plans outlined for 123 W. Franklin

Construction on a mixed-use project in downtown Chapel Hill is set to begin in early 2015.

Cousins Properties and Northwood Ravin have entered into a joint venture to develop the project at the site of University Square, 123. W. Franklin St.
The development is estimated to include about 156,000 square feet of office space, 42,000 square feet of retail space and 256 apartment units.
The development will be Northwood Ravin’s fifth Chapel Hill apartment project in the last 15 years, including Cosgrove Hill, Chapel Hill North and Townhomes at Chapel Watch.
According to a release, estimated completion is summer 2016.

Breakfast franchise comes to Chapel Hill: The Egg and I, a breakfast and lunch restaurant, will open in the Triangle market at East 54 in Chapel Hill.
The restaurant is set to open in late November or early December, said David Miller, director of Real Estate for E&I Holdings.
Based in Colorado, The Egg and I offers breakfast staples like omelettes, waffles, and pancakes in addition to lunch entrees and sandwiches.
The franchise has 100 restaurants in 19 states. The location in Chapel Hill, at 1101 Environ Way, is the brand’s first location in North Carolina.
Italian restaurant Piola previously occupied the space.
