UNC Hospitals to hold topping out ceremony
The University of North Carolina Hospitals and Skanska, the company building a new hospital in Hillsborough, will hold a topping out ceremony at the site Thursday. The topping out ceremony marks the safe and successful end to vertical construction and will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the 256,000-square-foot healthcare facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
U.S. Congressman David Price, Tom Stevens, the mayor of Hillsborough, William Roper, the chief operating officer of UNC Health Care and the Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and Steve Stouthamer, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska, will make remarks.
People who attend the ceremony will sign the last beam before it's hoisted into place at the top of the hospital.
The hospital is located at 460 Waterstone Drive in Hillsborough, which is across the street from the Orange County campus of Durham Tech.
