A bomb threat at University Mall caused havoc Monday, tying up traffic and forcing police to evacuate the mall while they searched for a suspected bomb.
No bomb was found and the mall was reopened shortly after 6 p.m.
Police responded to the bomb threat at approximately 4:30 p.m., after a note was found in the men’s restroom indicating that a bomb had been placed in the mall.
Town Manager Roger Stancil said the town’s library, which is temporarily located at the mall, was also evacuated.
Police briefly closed Estes Drive at Willow Drive and Fordham Boulevard and Willow Drive at U.S. 15-501 while the bomb threat was being investigated.
