Kalamaki, a Greek street food eatery: The owner of Kipos Greek Taverna in Chapel Hill has also opened Kalamaki, a take-out and quick-service eatery.

The eatery, which is focused on Greek street food, is at 431 W. Franklin St. at The Courtyard, which is also where the sit-down restaurant Kipos is.

The menu includes grilled lamb, chicken, pork or vegetable skewers, gyros, greek burgers, and salads.

The restaurants are operated by Giorgios Bakatasias, CEO of the Giorgios Hospitality Group. The group includes Bin 54, City Kitchen, as well as Durham’s Parizade, Vin Rouge, Vita and the Nasher Museum of Art Museum Café, and other restaurants.

Chopsticks & More: The Chopsticks & More restaurant that opened in July on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill in place of Korchipi Korean Chicken & Pizza is focused on Korean fare.

Sharon Huh, restaurant owner, said the previous owner sold the business. She said the restaurant no longer serves pizza, but has other Korean menu items.

“We have Korean tacos, Korean-style pancakes, we still have Korean chicken, we also have wings,” she said.

The restaurant is open at 163 E. Franklin St. in the space that at one time housed Franklin Street Pizza and Pasta.

Pancake special: Weathervane, the restaurant located at the specialty food shop Southern Season in Chapel Hill, has started offering a $5 pancake breakfast on Saturdays.

From 7 to 10 a.m., diners and their families can choose from plain, chocolate or blueberry pancakes and get a side of bacon or sausage for $5 per person.

New restaurants in Pittsboro: There are plans for two new restaurants to be built in Pittsboro: a new Waffle House and a new Bojangles’.

The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners approved a site plan in June for a new Waffles House to be located off of Lowes Drive.

Kelly Thrasher, a spokeswoman for the chain, said there are no new locations confirmed yet, however.

Also in June, the board also approved a rezoning for land off of U.S. 15-501 for a Bojangles’ restaurant.

Pittsboro Planning Director Stuart Bass said the applicants are in the process of getting information together for their building permits.
