Mixed opens in Chapel Hill

Jul. 11, 2013 @ 12:10 PM

Chapel Hill’s Mixed opens: Mixed Casual Korean Bistro has opened on East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill in the location that previously housed the Italian restaurant Tedesco’s.

The restaurant is named “Mixed” because of the rice-based Korean dish called Bibimbap that it’s serving. Customers build the dish from a choice of different vegetables, meats and sauces, and then mix everything together before eating.
There is a choice of white rice, brown rice, mid grain rice, or salad as a base; five different vegetables; proteins such as Soy-marinated sliced beef, chicken, spicy pork, or tofu; as well as sauces such as spicy Korean chili paste, black sesame dressing, and mixed miso.
The menu also includes appetizers, mixed wings, and side dishes. Mixed’s hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call 919-929-0047.

Build-a-burger: Carolina Brewery is accepting entries for its annual Build-A-Brewery Burger Contest through July 22.
The winner of the competition gets his or her burger on the menu at the Carolina Brewery brewpub locations in Chapel Hill and Pittsboro, as well as a grill.
To enter, entrants must write down the ingredients to their “dream burgers” and email them to burger@carolinabrewery.com, or they can enter paper submissions at either location.
There will be a Finalist Burger Cook-Off at the Pittsboro brewpub location during an anniversary celebration on Aug. 10.
The prize for the People’s Choice Award is a $100 Carolina Brewery gift card. All finalists receive a Carolina Brewery merchandise pack.

Carolina Coffee Shop renovations: The Carolina Coffee Shop at 138 E. Franklin St. has closed for summer renovations through the end of July.
The plan is to re-open for regular operating hours on Aug. 1, according to a voicemail message.
