Burger restaurant opens on Franklin St.

Al’s Burger Shack: The hamburger joint Al’s Burger Shack is now open in Chapel Hill in the West Franklin Street space that previously housed The Chocolate Door.
The menu includes burgers such as the “Sunshine,” which has an over-easy fried egg, bacon, pepper jelly and American cheese, and the “BoBo Chili Cheeseburger,” which has chili sauce, slaw, chopped onion, yellow mustard, and American cheese, according to their website, http://www.alsburgershack.com/menu.
The list of sides includes sweet potato fries, salad, crinkle-cut fries, and deviled eggs.
The restaurant’s mission is to provide local, fresh, sustainable food and drinks at an affordable price, according to its website.

Aveda to offer free day of haircuts and spa services: The Aveda Institute Chapel Hill is offering free hair cuts and spa services Oct. 9 as part of a fundraiser for breast cancer research.
On that day, the institute will be offering hair cuts, make-up applications, express facials, polish changes, and neck and shoulder massages.
A $10 donation is requested for each service. All donations received on the day of the event will go to The Breast Research Foundation. The institute hopes to raise $5,000.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Guests interested in attending can call 919-960-4769, ext. 3, to schedule an appointment. Appointments are limited. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. 
The institute is at 200 W. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill.
