The Orange County Board of Commissioners announced last week that Assistant County Manager Michael Talbert will serve as the interim county manger when current manager Frank Clifton departs later this month.
Talbert will serve in the interim’s post for up to six months, beginning Sept. 30.
“The commissioners are confident Mr. Talbert has the skills, experience, temperament, and knowledge of Orange County to keep our work on track while the board undertakes a formal search process to select the most qualified candidate to permanently fill the County Manager’s position,” said Board Chairman Barry Jacobs.
Talbert joined the county’s administrative team in 2010, touting extensive experience in financial services and management, serving as the Finance Director of Catawba County and County Manager of Polk County, both in North Carolina.
“Orange County is experiencing some significant changes. I am prepared to make the transition as seamless as possible by providing guidance to the Board of County Commissioners and support to the employees, while maintaining strong ties with the towns, schools and other key agencies within the community,” Talbert said.
Clifton announced in June that he would retire Sept. 29 after serving four years as manager of Orange County.
