Morris Grove Elementary principal Amy Rickard has another reason to smile after being named the 2014 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year for the Piedmont Triad/Central Region.
After being named Principal of the Year for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in October, Rickard will now compete with eight other finalists for the state honor and cash prizes for herself and her school.
Rickard has been principal at Morris Grove since 2007 but has been with the district since 1999.
The selection committee that chose Rickard said that she was “poised and articulate when explaining how she supports her staff and students through the process of learning.”
Rickard told the committee that “our school environment is grounded in the professional learning community’s framework where we work collaboratively to make decisions, plan instruction and share ideas.”
If she is named the 2014 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year, Rickard and Morris Grove will receive $3,000 each.
The winner will be announced in the spring at a state event in Cary. The 2013 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year is Dale Cole of Southside High School in Beaufort County.
