Mary Margaret Smith and Andrew Canady Martin were married on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Durham, N.C. The Rev. Michael Ritter, cousin of the bride, officiated.
The bride's parents are Val and Ted Smith of Durham. The bride’s maternal grandparents are Gladys and Buddy Gover of Burlington. Her paternal grandmother is Glenna Smith of Burlington. The groom's parents are Andy Martin of Wilson and the late Martha Lewis Martin. His maternal grandparents are Betty and Ray Lewis of Rocky Mount. His paternal grandmother is Minnie Martin of Reidsville.
The maid of honor was Emily Smith, sister of the bride. Other bridal attendants were Meagan Martin, sister of the groom, Milly Asbury, Anne-Marie Cummings, Sarah Smith and Jordan Warshauer. Best man was Tyler Martin, brother of the groom. Ushers were Matt Abraham, Andrew Faircloth, Andy Lakin, Owen Smith and Travis Smith.
A reception was held at The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill.
The bride, a graduate of Jordan High School, holds a B.A. in history and Southern studies from UNC-Chapel Hill and an M.A. in history from UNC-Charlotte. She is employed by Myers Park High School in Charlotte as a history teacher.
The groom, a graduate of Fike High School in Wilson, holds a B.S. in business administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is employed by Bank of America in Charlotte.
After their honeymoon in Saint Lucia, the couple will reside in Charlotte.
