Southern Season announces new president  

CHAPEL HILL  -- Dave Herman is joining Southern Season as president and chief operating officer of in April, the gourmet food retailer’s CEO W. Clay Hamner announced Friday.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Herman started his retail career at Bloomingdale’s as a merchandising manager, store manager and later operational vice president. He later served as director of retail stores for Coach, president of Dansk and Lenox Retail and then became CEO of Hartmann’s.

“As we continue expanding throughout the Southeast, it was important that we add leadership to our senior management team, and after an extensive nationwide search, we are very fortunate to have recruited Dave to join us,” Hamner said in a statement. “He embraces the Southern Season culture and has led the expansion of a number of well known national brands.”

The original Chapel Hill location will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2015 while the Charleston, S.C., store – which opened in September 2013 – is rounding out its first year.

Southern Season in Richmond, Va., opens this summer of 2014. Other locations throughout the South are planned.

Farm Bureau honors agency manager

CHAPEL HILL -- The N.C. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. has named Michael Decker, manager of a Farm Bureau agency in Orange County, the “First Place Honor Agency Manager” in his category for 2013.

Decker was selected based on the agency's outstanding sales and service record for multi‑lines of insurance during 2013.

The announcement was made at the annual sales conference of the Farm Bureau Insurance Companies at the Sheraton Hotel Four Seasons/Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro in March.

Chimerix appoints Lisa Ricciardi to board

DURHAM – Chimerix Inc., a Durham-based pharmaceutical company developing oral antiviral drugs, announced that Lisa Ricciardi has been appointed to the company's board.

Ricciardi has collaborated with industry leaders in the United States, Europe and Japan, and has played a role at the board and executive levels on strategic transactions and product launches, according to a news release from Chimerix.

She is a member of the board of Drug Healthcare Group in Dublin, Ireland, and was a member of the board at Sepracor. She serves as a consultant to Davita RX, a full-service pharmacy specializing in renal care.

She previously was senior vice president of business development at Medco Health Solutions Inc., and was a venture partner at Essex Woodlands Health Ventures. She held several senior management positions at Pfizer, including senior vice president for licensing and development. She earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University.
