Time-Out to take over East End space

Time-Out, which has been in Chapel Hill’s University Square for 35 years, will move about a half-mile down Franklin Street this fall.

The restaurant is the last tenant in the square, soon to be cleared for redevelopment, and must be out by Sept. 1, said Time-Out’s special events manager Ira Green.

Time-Out will take over the former East End location at 201 E. Franklin Street. East End closed in June, but its ground-floor bar, Deep End, will remain open.

“I think it’s going to be a very busy location,” Green said. “Being that we’re close to all the fraternities and sororities.”

Green said because parking is limited near the new Franklin Street location, the restaurant will also open a Time-Out Express, which will be open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., at Time-Out Sports Bar on North Fordham Boulevard.

The express restaurant will serve the same food as the Franklin Street location.

The restaurant has also partnered with Time To Go Taxi, Green said, to offer 24 hour delivery service. Green said the restaurant will still use its mobile food truck, mainly for catering events.
