Merrill Lynch adviser earns distinction
DURHAM -- Christopher B. Combs of Merrill Lynch’s Durham office has earned the Certified Financial Planner certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
According to a news release, the designation is awarded to individuals who meet rigorous education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements set by the CFP Board.
“The CFP designation continues to be one of the most distinguished certifications a financial advisor can earn and is a reflection of Chris’ deep knowledge of the industry, as well as his dedication to working effectively with clients to help them reach their financial goals,” said William D. Peyton, resident director, in a prepared statement.
Combs, a resident of Durham, received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and joined Merrill Lynch in 2008.
He is in the Durham Merrill Lynch office at 3211 Shannon Road.

Inn names new business travel sales manager
DURHAM – The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club has appointed Colleen Payne to the role of business travel sales manager.
Payne joins the inn’s eight-person sales and marketing team.
In her role, Payne is responsible for managing and developing accounts that generate individual traveler reservations — accounts needing a short-term hotel stay for its out-of-town guests and travelers on-the-go — which includes corporate accounts, consortia and Duke University affiliates.
Before joining the inn, Payne held sales manager positions at the Holiday Inn Raleigh, the Charlotte Uptown Hotel, and other locations.

Cumming adds Durham office
DURHAM -- Cumming, an international project management and cost consulting firm, announced it has expanded into North Carolina with a new Durham office.
The firm hired Frank Pinto to serve as vice president for project management within the firm’s new Durham office.
Pinto and the North Carolina team will be responsible for building out the firm’s regional footprint and servicing the company’s Southeast and Mid-Atlantic clients.
Pinto brings more than 12 years of industry experience to Cumming and has experience in both private and public sector markets. Before joining Cumming, Pinto was a director of project development services for Forrester Construction Co. in Washington, D.C.
