Hillsborough pizzeria now open

Radius Pizzeria & Pub: The Radius Pizzeria & Pub has opened in Hillsborough in a renovated space at 112 N. Churton St. that previously housed Hillsborough Savings and Loan and government offices.

The eatery is offering pizzas, paninis and salads.

Luna Pops in grocery stores: Luna Pops, the frozen ice pops made based on traditional Mexican ice pops, have been selling in Lowes Foods stores since Tuesday.

They are available at Lowes Foods stores as a four-pack for $4.99.

Mary Jo Lee, Lowes Foods’ senior administrative assistant for marketing, said in an email on Wednesday that they were available at 75 of 81 Lowes Foods stores.

Luna Pops was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Jon and Dina Mills, who are based in the Chapel Hill area, according to the release.

Lowe’s Food Stores Inc., founded in 1954, is a grocery store chain with stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The business is a subsidiary of Hickory-based Alex Lee Inc., which is the holding company for Lowe’s Food Stores Inc., Merchant Distributors, and Just$ave Stores.




Permit approved for Carrboro mixed-use development: The Carrboro Board of Aldermen has approved a conditional-use permit for Shelton Station, a residential and commercial development.

The project is planned to include a four-story building with 94 residential units and a two-story building with 22,706 square feet of commercial space, according to information from town officials.

It is slated to be built on about 2.7 acres located at and adjacent to 402 N. Greensboro St.

Carrboro Mayor Mark Chilton said the rezoning for the property was approved last year. He said there was some controversy about the rezoning, but he said that was resolved by adding the commercial component to the project.

“The developer figured out a way to make that work, and so, once the zoning had passed, the development itself was not as controversial,” Chilton said. “It now matched the zoning. So we had that discussion and got past that.”

Chilton said he supports the plan.

“It’s right on a major public transportation corridor and it’s walkable to downtown, and, you know, they’re mostly one-and-two-bedroom apartments, they’re not likely to put a whole lot of kids in the school system; there’s really a positive return for taxpayers,” he said.




Chef Challenge: Four chefs will serve up small plates at the ticketed fundraiser for the Chapel Hill nonprofit Community Nutrition Partnership.

The list includes chefs from Guglhupf Bakery, Restaurant and Café, Saint Jacques French Cuisine and Vimala’s Curryblossom Café.

The dishes made by each chef will be kept a secret until the evening of April 25, according to a news release. Attendees will vote on their favorite dishes.

The event starts at 6 p.m. with appetizers and a silent auction. The chefs will be announced and the small plates will be available for sampling. The winner will be announced by 7:45 p.m. Dessert and coffee will be served.

Tickets include four small plates, one drink ticket for wine or beer, dessert, coffee, and live music.

Tickets can be purchased online at  cnpnc.eventbrite.com. The cost is $25 until the day of the event. Tickets will be $30 at the door.

The event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Extraordinary Ventures, 200 S. Elliott Road in Chapel Hill.

Proceeds will go to the Community Nutrition Partnership, a nonprofit that wants to increase access to healthy, local and affordable food.
