Do a good deed, try CrossFit for free: The CrossFit location in Chapel Hill at 7401 Rex Road, Unit 106, will be participating in a global food drive that starts on Friday and runs through Jan. 4.
The location is participating in “Fitness Starts with Food,” a global food drive with the goal of raising 1 million pounds of healthy food for those in need this winter, along with other CrossFit affiliates.
Participants are encouraged to donate a pound of nutritious food such as dried fruit, canned tuna and apple sauce. They’re putting an emphasis on organic, whole ingredients. In exchange, the donator gets to try CrossFit for free.
Classes will be scaled to accommodate even those in need of a fitness tune-up, according to a news release.
Kelly Edwards, the owner of CrossFit Local on Rex Road, said that anyone who brings in a pound of food is eligible for a free class. She said to contact the location by phone or email prior to the class to make sure they’re not too full.
CrossFit is characterized by 20-minute workouts featuring varied functional movements performed at a high intensity.
