University Mall to announce new tenant
University Mall officials are planning to announce a new “prominent” tenant at a press conference on Tuesday.
In addition, they’re planning to welcome new retailers that have already been announced as mall tenants.
A slew of businesses have moved or announced locations for the mall in light of the planned demolition of Chapel Hill’s University Square development on Franklin Street.
University Square will be razed to pave the way for a project known as 123 West Franklin, which is proposed to include apartments as well as office and retail space.
The children's boutique Glee Kids, the jewelry store William Travis Jewelers and Cynthia’s Tailor Shop were former tenants of University Square that have moved to University Mall, alongside additional new tenant TrySports.
Peacock Alley is planning to move to the mall this year, according to a news release. The women’s apparel retailer, Fine Feathers, will open at the mall in January.
Kidzu Children’s Museum and Plaza Azteca, a full-service restaurant serving contemporary Mexican cuisine, will follow in 2014.
Alongside the new tenants, the mall has also seen the department store Dillard’s convert into a clearance center. Attempts to reach a spokeswoman for the company were unsuccessful Thursday.
