NIEHS research fellow earns endocrinology internship
DURHAM – National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Research Fellow Diana Cruz-Topete was one of seven young scientists to receive a 2014 Future Leaders Advancing Research in Endocrinology Internship from the Endocrine Society.
She accepted the award at a joint meeting of the International Society of Endocrinology and the Endocrine Society June 21-24 in Chicago.
Cruz-Topete examines how glucocorticoids, naturally produced chemicals that reduce inflammation in the body, regulate cardiac function under normal and stressful conditions. She is a member of the NIEHS Molecular Endocrinology Group.
The internship gives her the opportunity to encourage young people from underrepresented groups to continue their paths in science.

Hill, Chesson & Woody announces client manager
DURHAM – Hill, Chesson & Woody, an independently owned and operated employee benefits firm, has hired Kirstin Ellison as client manager.
In the role, Ellison will use her 20 years of experience in employee benefits to execute benefit strategies for clients across North Carolina.
Before joining HCW, Ellison served as account manager for self-funded hospital clients at Progressive Benefit Solutions, a benefits consulting agency based in the Research Triangle. Before relocating to North Carolina, Ellison worked as a technical consultant at Marsh USA in San Diego, California.
She received a bachelor’s of science degree in business with a concentration in management from Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, and holds a North Carolina Life & Health license. She lives in Apex with her husband and two sons.

Dilweg companies announces chief financial officer
DURHAM – The Dilweg Companies, a commercial real estate investment company, announced that Neal White has joined the company as chief financial officer. 
In this newly created position, White will oversee the operations of Dilweg’s finance and accounting team. He brings 13 years of experience in commercial real estate and corporate finance to the position.
“Neal’s experience and expertise will help strengthen our management team and support our growing commercial real estate presence in the Southeast,” said Anthony Dilweg, CEO of the Dilweg Companies, in a statement.
Prior to joining The Dilweg Companies, White served as senior vice president at Eastdil Secured/Wells Fargo Securities in Washington, D.C. While at Eastdil, White advised clients on capital raises, acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures. He successfully completed transactions totaling in excess of $60 billion.
White received a master’s of business administration degree from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In addition to hiring White, Dilweg recently hired John MacDonell as asset manager.
