Grand opening set for Wine & Raw Bar

Wine & Raw Bar at Straw Valley: Straw Valley Food & Drink will be launching a full menu and evening hours at its café that will be called the Wine & Raw Bar.

Currently, the café serves coffee in the morning, a light lunch menu, and closes up at night.

But on April 11, there will be a grand opening for the launch of the new menu and expanded hours for the café.

The grand opening event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., and will include seafood and a Bordeaux winemaker.

On an ongoing basis, the Wine & Raw Bar will serve three different kinds of raw oysters, clams, six different cheeses, prosciutto, bar snacks, chocolates, and specials.

Wines will be served in 3-ounce and 6-ounce pours, as well as full bottles.

The hours will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, from 5:30 until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The opening follows the launch of the fine dining restaurant The Black House at Straw Valley on the same property.

The restaurant is in a converted mid-century modern home that’s part of the complex of modern-style buildings located between U.S. 15-501 and the New Hope Commons shopping center.

Following the launch of the restaurant and the Raw & Wine Bar, the owners will be launching a patio Beer Garden.

Mattie B’s Cider Fest: The owners of Mattie B’s Public House are holding a festival on April 19 with 2-ounce tastings of ciders from North Carolina, Virginia and Vermont, as well as food samples from local restaurants including Mattie B’s, Bar Lusconi, G2B, Pizzeria Toro, Primal, Q Shack, Six Plates and Toast.

“All those guys are going to come, bring light bites, two or three pieces to try, that ideally will be paired well with cider,” said Matthew Beason, the co-owner of  both Mattie B’s Public House and of Six Plates Wine Bar. “So it’s all 2-ounce pours so people will just be able to try lots and lots of different stuff.”

The food from the restaurants and two-ounce pours from the cider-markers will be offered in the first session from noon to 3 p.m. that costs $50. Beason said there will be 150 tickets sold for that session, and there were tickets remaining as of Tuesday.

There will also be a second session that costs $10 that includes entry and live music, Beason said. Food and drinks will be ordered separately from Mattie B’s. The restaurant and bar is working to have ciders on-tap. Food will be ordered a la carte from Mattie B’s.
