Job fair to be held Tuesday in Raleigh

More than 90 employers with open positions have registered to participate in a job fair scheduled for Tuesday at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, according to a news release.

The free “Back to Work North Carolina Jobs Fair” is co-hosted by U.S. Senator Kay Hagan and the community college.

Employers scheduled to participate include A.B. Goodrich Contracting, LLC AICPA, Allen Tate Realtors, Baker Roofing Company, Burt’s Bees, Butner Federal Correctional Complex, Brookdale Senior Living, Butner Federal Correctional Complex, Cisco Systems, Duke Energy, Grifols, Leith Toyota, Lord Corp. and Red Hat.

The job fair is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to noon. It’s free to employers and job seekers. All businesses are encouraged to participate.

New exec named for Durham Center for Senior Life

DURHAM - Juanita Nelson has been appointed executive director of the Durham Center for Senior Life, the center’s board announced.

Nelson, who took over the role effective March 1, has worked as the director of social services with the center for more than 18 years, according to a news release. She became interim executive director in November.

Prior to working with the center, she was an intake and marketing coordinator with the Durham Housing Authority. She also worked at Duke University in the counseling and psychological services department from 1991 to 1993.   

 

Cree one of 2013 Energy Star award recipients

ATLANTA – Durham-based Cree, Inc. of Durham received a 2013 Energy Star Program Award for Excellence for efficiency and product innovation, according to a news release.

The LED company was one of six organizations the state honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy with 2013 awards from the Energy Star Program. 

The winners were chosen from nearly 20,000 Energy Star partners including manufacturers, retailers, public schools, hospitals, and others.
