Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina announced Tuesday the results of a donations campaign competition tied to the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball regular season.

Donations by the insurer to the charities of choice of Duke, North Carolina and N.C. State were determined by the total points scored from three-point field goals during the season.

Duke came in the lead, followed by North Carolina. N.C. State came in third.

The insurer said the competition netted a $20,000 donation to Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center, a $5,000 donation to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and a $2,500 donation to the N.C. State Family Scholarship.

The second component of the challenge was to measure the rivalry of fans. The insurer said it asked fans to text support of their favorite teams from Dec. 1 of last year through March 10. Nearly 32,000 texts were received.

North Carolina’s fans won that component, securing a $2,500 donation to the Lineberger Cancer Center.
