New site weighed for ABC store
Chapel Hill North ABC Store: There are plans to relocate an Orange County ABC store from inside the Chapel Hill North Shopping Center into a proposed new building nearby on more than 2 acres on Perkins Drive. That’s if the county’s ABC board can get the necessary approvals for the project.
A public hearing is expected to be held at a Town Council meeting in April for a special-use permit application for the store, which would be located at 251 Perkins Drive. The proposal is for the construction of an approximately 5,000-square-foot building with parking.
Tony DuBois, general manager of the Orange County ABC Board, said the board is proposing to relocate the store from a leased space into one that it would own. He said the lot the Orange County ABC Board is looking at was part of the master plan for the shopping center, but has been more difficult to develop because of a utility power easement at the site.
He said the board hopes to have a new store built and open by June of next year.
“We’re moving the store about less than a hundred yards from our current one,” DuBois said. “There’s not a whole lot of controversy there.”
Succotashed: The crowdfunding campaign ends Friday for a proposed farm-to-fork restaurant in Siler City called Succotashed.
Nichol Price is hoping to open the restaurant in an unused café space at 113 Raleigh St. in Siler City, which is in Chatham County. She said that it currently only has booths a few bar stools, and some paint on the walls. She’s trying to raise $9,500 using the crowdfunding website Indiegogo for equipment.
Price said she’s a graduate of the Central Carolina Community College Natural Chef Certification Program, which she said taught culinary skills and also had an emphasis on food politics.
