Sup Dogs, Toppers to open
Sup Dogs to fill Pepper’s space: In the space formerly occupied by the longtime pizza shop Pepper’s Pizza, Sup Dogs is planned to open early next year on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
The location at 107 E. Franklin St. will be the second for Sup Dogs, behind the original restaurant that serves East Carolina University students in Greenville.
The restaurant serves 23 different “Sup Dogs,” 15 different “Sup Burgers,” appetizers, and other sandwiches.
The options for Sup Dogs range from the “Hawaiian Dog Combo” made with sweet pineapple, lettuce, honey mustard, and “Sup Dog Sauce,” to the “Crunch Dog Combo,” which is made with lettuce, buffalo sauce, chili, and crushed purple and gold chips.

Toppers opening: Toppers Pizza, a location of a Wisconsin-based pizza delivery restaurant chain, is slated to open Jan. 4 in the space that previously housed Gumby’s. The grand opening is set for Jan. 11.
Gumby's had served up pizza and its signature Pokey Stix from that location since 1992.
Topper’s has its own cheesy bread product called “Topperstix,” along pizzas, grinders, buffalo wings, and a pizza-style quesadilla.
Provence to host wine tastings: The Carrboro restaurant Provence is planning to host wine tastings on the third Thursday of each month.
The first was slated to be held Dec. 19 as a fundraiser for the hunger relief organization TABLE. The cost was $20 to participate.
The restaurant, which serves French and Mediterranean food, is at 203 W. Weaver St. in Carrboro.
