Northgate Dairy Queen closes

Feb. 18, 2014 @ 11:33 AM

Northgate’s DQ, Orange Julius closed: The Dairy Queen and Orange Julius location by the carousel at Northgate Mall has closed.

Allison Savicz, a spokeswoman for Northgate, said in an email that the corporate office “parted ways” with the local franchisee. She said she believes the company is working on making the location and opportunity available.

Attempts to reach the parent company for comment were unsuccessful Tuesday.

It also looks like work is underway in a new, larger space at the mall where the existing Kids Foot Locker will move.

New Moe’s to open: The new Moe’s Southwest Grill at the Diamond View III building downtown is opening Thursday.

Diamond View III is the new building with office space and ground-floor retail shops that was built to overlook the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. It’s across the street from the American Tobacco campus, and has the same owner.

It will also offer bicycle delivery within a one-mile radius daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will serve draft beer at lunch and dinner to cater to Durham Performing Arts Center and Durham Bulls patrons.

The restaurant will be the 17th location in the Triangle for the fast-casual chain, and the third new Moe’s to open in the Triangle in just two years.

To celebrate the grand opening Thursday, Moe’s has partnered with The Durham Performing Arts Center and the Durham Bulls to offer guests a free side of cheese and chips when customers presents their tickets the day of the performance or game throughout 2014.

The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
