Cheese bread returning to Franklin?: While Pokey Stix and Gumby’s are no more on West Franklin Street, it looks like there’s a new brand of cheese bread coming to town.
The Wisconsin-based franchise pizza-delivery chain Topper’s Pizza has an announcement on its website www.toppers.com that a new location is targeted to open in Chapel Hill at 306 W. Franklin St., Suite A.
Gumby’s had previously served up pizza and its signature Pokey Stix from that location since 1992.
To appease those Chapel Hillians who may have been missing cheese bread available by delivery, Topper’s menu includes 18 different house pizzas, grinders, buffalo wings, a pizza-style quesadilla, drinks and a cheese bread product called “Topperstix.”

Carolina Pride closes: The collegiate apparel shop Carolina Pride has closed at 151 E. Franklin St.
On Thursday morning, there were signs on the door announced the closing and the packing process was underway on the interior.
“We’re sad to see them close,” said Bobby Funk, assistant director of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership. “There’s been interest in that space in the time that the announcement has come out; I wouldn’t be surprised if we see something replace that space very shortly.”
