New strip mall to be built on N. Roxboro
Starbucks on North Roxboro: A developer has plans to replace the old location of Ole NC Bar-B-Q on North Roxboro with a retail strip center that will include a new Starbucks.
A Florida company bought the building for $575,000 last year, according to property records. In April, plans were filed with the Durham City-County Planning Department for a project called “Starbucks Roxboro,” which would demolish the building and build the retail center on the site.
“Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers, and we are happy to confirm that will be opening a new location at 4201 N. Roxboro in Durham, N.C.,” a Starbucks spokeswoman said in an email.
Ole NC Bar-B-Que moved from the building at 4201 N. Roxboro into space in the North Duke Crossing Shopping Center.
The restaurant, which started in the shopping center before moving to North Roxboro, no longer has a buffet, but does still do catering as well as take-out and eat-in orders.
The restaurant operators had previously owned the building. But sold the building to PNC Bank following foreclosure.
McDonald’s updates: The opening of the new McDonald’s on Guess Road in Durham has been delayed by a few days, according to a spokeswoman for the company.
Some construction permits were still in process, causing some delays in determining the opening date. The grand opening is planned for mid-July.
The restaurant at 2700 Guess Road is being built on the site once occupied by Honey’s, the longtime, 24-hour restaurant.
Another McDonald’s at 1010 N. Miami Blvd. opened in late May following a restaurant rebuild at the location. And the new McDonald’s on North Roxboro Road that was built in the location of the old Eno River Eatery also opened in May.
New building at Renaissance Center: Plans have been filed with Durham-City County Planning for the construction of a new building at Renaissance Center, the shopping center across Fayetteville Road from The Streets at Southpoint.
The plans show the addition of a 5,000-squrae-foot multi-tenant building at the south end of the shopping center. They would renovate part of the existing parking lot and would also add new parking.
