Denny’s in Durham: A Denny’s restaurant location is planned to open in Durham in the Hope Valley Commons shopping center near the intersection of N.C. 54 and N.C. 751.
Amy York, vice president of retail services for Raleigh-based York Properties Inc., said in an email that a lease was signed Monday for space next to Go Realty in a building at the shopping center whose exterior was completed this summer.
Denny’s is a chain of American diners. Most of the restaurants are open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
At the end of 2011, publicly traded Denny’s Corp. had 1,685 corporate and franchisee-owned restaurants. The company said it’s best known for serving breakfast food around the clock, and it also tries to appeal to late-night diners.
York said construction on the space will begin the next 60 days. The restaurant is targeted to open in April or May.

Buffet dinner to raise money for food entrepreneurs: Tickets are $15 for a buffet-style, sit-down meal to be held Jan. 27 at Fullsteam Brewery in Durham that will raise money for farmers and food entrepreneurs.
The meal will feature soup donated by Vin Rouge, according to a news release. There will also be bread from Ninth Street Bakery, and salad from Piedmont Restaurant and Boywood Farms.
During dinner, five beginning farmers and food entrepreneurs will make pitches for funding for projects. The five presenters will be selected in an application process that began Dec. 13 and continues to Jan. 16.
After the presentations, ticket holders will vote on their favorite project. The winner will receive a grant from the money raised from ticket sales and from donations collected at the door.
A small portion of the money will be saved for supplies and ingredients for future events of Funds to Farms, a micro-funding program by The Abundance Foundation, The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and Slow Money NC.
Fullsteam Brewery will also be donating to the Funds to Farms micro-grant pot by giving half of the profits from sales of their new beer, Cackalcky Ginger Pale Ale, during a launch party from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 27. The dinner will be from 7 to 9 p.m.
