Lane Byant sets Jan. 31 closing date

Northgate Lane Bryant closing details: According to a spokeswoman for the owner of Northgate Mall, the mall’s Lane Bryant store is planned to close Jan. 31.
Allison Savicz, a spokeswoman for the mall, said in an email that Lane Bryant stores are also closing at the Four Seasons Town Centre in Greensboro and at the Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.
Savicz said the store has been at Northgate since 1990, when they were owned by The Limited. The store relocated from the Sears end of Northgate to their current location near Macy’s in 1999. She said in early 2000, the brand was acquired by Charming Shoppes Inc., which was acquired by Ascena Retail Group Inc. June of last year.
Ascena operates stores under the retail brands Justice, Lane Bryant, Maurices, Dressbarn, and Catherines.

Tax preparers at Northgate: Four tax preparation assistance operations are open or setting up shop at Northgate, according to a news release from the mall.
The North Carolina Taxpayer Assistance Center, coordinated by Reinvestment Partners opens Tuesday in space No. 856 on the mall plaza.
The center is a coalition effort of Reinvestment Partners, the Duke University School of Law, The N.C. Central University School of Law and NC Legal Aid. The center provides tax preparation to North Carolina taxpayers who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The Tax Center, owned and operated by Curtis Day, is re-locating from the Northgate’s underground office suites to space No. 622. The tax preparation operation also provides business services including payroll and professional procurement.
Jackson Hewitt, a year-round income tax preparation company with franchise and corporate-owned locations around the country, has opened a location on the second floor of Sears.
Liberty Tax, also a national tax preparation franchise operations, has had a location with Northgate Mall for more than 11 years. The news release from the mall said the location at the Shops at Northgate has a new owner and operator, Naim Mustafa.
