Sup Dogs opening soon: The new Chapel Hill restaurant and bar Sup Dogs is set to open June 9 in renovated space at 107 E. Franklin St.

This will be the second location for Sup Dogs behind the original restaurant and bar that serves East Carolina University students in Greenville.

The restaurant serves a range of specialty hot dogs and specialty burgers, as well as appetizers and other sandwiches. It will also have a full bar serving beer and liquor.

The location was previously the longtime home of Pepper’s Pizza. Owner Bret Oliverio said they’ve made top-to-bottom renovations to the building.

“We totally transformed the building – everything inside and out is brand new,” he said. “What separates us from other restaurants is we’re sort of innovative, high energy,” he added. “It’s bright, it’s loud, it’s fun. That’s sort of the atmosphere we’re trying to create.”

The restaurant was founded in Greenville by Oliverio’s brother, Derek. After his brother died in a house fire, Bret, who worked in sports talk radio in Washington, D.C., said he and his wife quit their jobs and moved to North Carolina to continue his legacy.

“I know my brother loved the Chapel Hill,” he said. “It was pretty much a no-brainer to look to Chapel Hill. We found the right location.”

Carolina Brewery partners on new beer: Carolina Brewery has partnered with Counter Culture Coffee to produce a coffee-infused India pale ale beer.

“In order to get the right IPA color we went with our light colored Firecracker Pale Ale for the base of this beer,” said Jon Connolly, director of brewing operations at Carolina Brewery, in a prepared statement. “When combined with the cold brewed coffee, the result is a deep copper color that we all recognize as an IPA.”

The Coffee IPA will be available for a limited time. Carolina Brewery has two brewpub locations. One is at 460 W. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill. The other is at 120 Lowes Drive, suite 100, in Pittsboro.
