New to Chapel Hill: Hummus Café
Hummus Café on Franklin: A new Mediterranean food restaurant called Hummus Café has opened at 169 E. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill in the space that previously housed Hot Dogs & Brew.
Abbes Khelfa, restaurant manager, said the menu includes falafel, gyros, fresh salads, Panini sandwiches, and homemade soups. He said the business has the same owner as Hot Dogs & Brew, but has a new menu and manager.
“They have a high-quality product I think, I hope they’re successful, and we’re working to make their business a hit on Franklin Street,” said Bobby Funk, assistant director of the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership.

Trilussa closes, Mozzarella opens: The owner of the Italian restaurant Trilussa la Trattoria has stepped aside to allow for a new manager and menu to take over the space at 401 W. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill.
Restaurant manager Alan Sukirin said Mozzarella is an Italian restaurant with some French, Asian and Mediterranean flare.
The menu, which is posted on the website http://mozzkitchen.com/, includes pasta options such as a $12 truffle gnocchi dish with fried ricotta gnocchi, black truffle oil, basil, sherry wine, white truffle garlic mushroom pate, as well as seafood options such as a $17 bouillabaisse, or French stew, with salmon, tilapia, scallops, mussels.
The restaurant is called “Mozzarella” because Sukirin said he makes his own mozzarella cheese. He said he’s taking over management of the space from the previous owner, who he said is retiring after more than 17 years.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., and later by request. For information, call 919-599-7310.
