Aveda Institute to open at University Mall in 2015
Cosmetology school to move: Chapel Hill’s Aveda Institute is expected to move from Franklin Street to University Mall in Chapel Hill, opening in its new location in early 2015.
The school, which offers salon and spa services, is taking 16,037 square feet of space in the mall in the north end.
The north end will be vacated by the discount variety store Roses.
Planet Fitness is also taking a 21,469-square-foot space in the north end. The gym is expected to open at the mall in late 2014. It will have cardio equipment such as treadmills and elliptical machines, upper and lower body strength machines, a 30-minute “Planet Fitness Express” circuit, and a 12-minute abdominal circuit. It will also have tanning services, “Total Body Enhancement Therapy” and an on-site certified fitness trainer.
Greenbridge announces new tenant: Rivers Agency, a strategic communications firm, will open in a retail space in the Greenbridge Condominiums mixed-use development at the corner of Rosemary and North Graham streets.
The agency was founded in Chapel Hill in 1993, and offers advertising, public relations, marketing, graphic design, website development, and search optimization services.
The agency’s 4,700-square-foot space was designed with the help of Chapel Hill architect Phillip Szostak of Szostak Design.
Greenbridge is under the ownership of a joint venture called SMA Greenbridge Owner that includes Square Mile Capital.
Tenants now include H2Only Cleaners, Bikram Yoga Chapel Hill, To The Woods hair salon, Caravela Coffee, the web development company Newfangled, the process and workflow management provider Integrify, and the Southern Environmental Law Center.
Eighty-two percent of the development’s condos have been sold, according to a news release, while the commercial space is now 85 percent occupied.
Condos are priced in the low $300,000s for a one-bedroom, in the mid $300,000s for a two-bedroom, and in the mid $600,000s for three-bedrooms.
Mina’s now open: An Italian-American quick-service restaurant serving burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, wings, salads and pastas called Mina’s has opened in downtown Chapel Hill.
The restaurant is at 401 W Franklin St. in the space that previously housed Trilussa La Trattoria and most recently, Mozzarella.
Owner John Hanna said the restaurant has a salad bar and a pasta bar. He said all of the sauces are homemade.
The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
