Yadkin Bank announces promotion

ELKIN — Yadkin Bank has announced the promotion of David Edwards to western regional president.

In this role, David will oversee all commercial and consumer banking activity in the bank's western region, which includes Durham as well as Yadkin, Wilkes, Ashe, Watauga and Avery counties.

Edwards will be based in the bank's administrative office in Elkin.

In his 20-year banking career, has held several leadership and management positions. He began his career at First Union/Wachovia in branch management, investment and securities sales, and small business lending. He has been at Yadkin Bank for more than 9 years in the Avery and Watauga markets.

Chapel Hill attorney to give talk

CHAPEL HILL -- Laura Noble of The Noble Law Firm in Chapel Hill has been selected by The Financial Executives Networking Group Raleigh chapter to speak to members on Wednesday.   

Noble, who focuses on employment law, will give the presentation, “Top Ten Employment Laws Executives Need to Know.”

It will aim to inform participants about the latest employment law developments, to provide an introduction to a number of employment laws and explore new ideas on keeping the employee handbook current.

NCCU chancellor joins Triangle United Way board  

MORRISVILLE – The United Way of the Greater Triangle has announced that N.C. Central University Chancellor Debra Saunders-White has been elected to serve on the nonprofit’s board. 

The addition reflects the United Way’s commitment to expanding relationships across sectors, according to a news release, and as part of its goal to create community-level solutions to some of the Triangle area’s most pressing issues. 

Saunders-White began as NCCU’s 11th chancellor on June 1.

Washington Duke Inn names director of sales and marketing

DURHAM -- The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club has appointed Jack Schmidt as director of sales and marketing.

Schmidt, who begins in his new role today, joins the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club from The Carolina Inn, where he served as general manager from 2012 to 2013.

He was promoted to general manager of The Carolina Inn after serving as regional director of sales and marketing for Destination Hotels and Resorts, the management company that operates the inn.

Schmidt’s responsibilities include managing the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club’s six-member sales team and the entire Inn’s sales and marketing, public relations and advertising initiatives.

His appointment comes just one month before the inn celebrates its 25th anniversary. In the year ahead, the Inn has anniversary-themed initiatives planned with Duke University and for guests.

Durham architecture firm announces recognition

DURHAM – The Durham-based architectural firm Distinctive Architecture announced that two of its residential projects are included in the new book “Rural Modern” by Russell Adams.

The book is a coffee table architecture book that’s slated to be published later this month. It includes a section on the firm and its owner Bill Waddell and showcases one of his custom homes and a home remodel.

Distinctive Architecture is a one-man residential architectural firm run by Waddell.
