NIEHS mentor and fellow honored
DURHAM -- Two scientists at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences were selected and honored as “Mentor of the Year” and “Fellow of the Year.”
Chapel Hill resident Dale Sandler, lead researcher on several studies and chief of the NIEHS Epidemiology Branch, was chosen as Mentor of the Year.
Sandler was recognized for her ability to guide her scientists and staff without hindering their individual development, according to a news release, and was also praised for providing networking and career development opportunities.
The Fellow of the Year honor went to Steven Roberts, a postdoctoral fellow in the NIEHS Chromosome Stability Group. The award recognizes extraordinary qualities in trainees that will prepare them for a well-rounded research career.
Recipients of the two awards were nominated by staff and chosen by the NIEHS Trainees Assembly, an organization at NIEHS dedicated to fostering professional development of its trainees.
