Harris Teeter to close Homestead Market location

Jul. 24, 2014 @ 04:47 PM

After 25 years at 105 W. Highway 54, Harris Teeter will close on or before Aug. 26.

The company announced the decision on Thursday, citing strategic market review.
The store employs 58 associates at the location and will offer them the opportunity to transfer to area locations.
Harris Teeter was purchased by Kroger earlier this year and plans on opening five new locations before the end of 2014, including one in Cary.
Steve Bocckino, a Durham resident, has been shopping at the location for 23 years.
“The employees have become our friends, and our neighbors, too,” Bocckino said in an email. “We'll miss the nervous teenagers in their first jobs, the bagger with a sweet memory for detail, and the butcher whose smile could light the store.”
Hunter and Associates, which manages the leasing of the Homestead Market center, could not be reached for comment about prospective tenants for the space.
