PSNC Energy’s natural gas rate increase approved
The N.C. Utilities Commission has approved PSNC Energy’s natural gas rate increase that is effective with this month’s bills, according a news release from the company.
The increase translates to an increase of approximately $1 per month based on the average customer usage of 16 therms per month during the summer non-heating season.
The increase is for an increase in the cost of gas, according to the release. PSNC Energy said it doesn’t earn a profit that component of its natural gas rates. The increase is passed directly to customers to recover costs associated with purchasing fuel.
Headquartered in Gastonia, PSNC Energy is a subsidiary of Scana Corp. It’s franchised to serve a 28-county service area in North Carolina.
The utility distributes natural gas to more than 499,000 customers in 96 cities and communities, including in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
