Ringo returning to DPAC in June
Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band will return to the Durham Performing Arts Center for a concert June 22.
Starr and a previous version of the All Starr Band performed at DPAC in July 2010. That band, in addition to Starr, featured keyboard player Gary Wright, guitarist Rick Derringer, keyboard player and saxophonist Edgar Winter, bass player Richard Page, guitarist Wally Palmar and percussionist Gregg Bissonette. The 2010 DPAC date was a sell-out.
The 2014 All Starr Band includes Steve Lukather, Page, Gregg Rolie, Todd Rundgren and Bissonette.
Starr recently performed his song “Photograph” at the 56th Grammy Awards ceremony. He also reunited in performance with former Beatle colleague Paul McCartney. This year marks a milestone in Beatles history, the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ coming to the United States. On Feb. 9, the Grammy organization and CBS will present a special commemorating the band’s appearance on Ed Sullivan’s variety show in 1964. Starr and McCartney, the two surviving Beatles, also have taped some sessions for the tribute show.
The David Lynch Foundation honored Starr Jan. 20 with the Lifetime of Peace & Love Award
In February, Simon & Shuster will publish "Octopus's Garden", a children's book based on Starr's lyrics. This book comes on the heels of December of last year's “PHOTOGRAPH,” first released as an e-book in conjunction with the Grammy Museum exhibit "Ringo: Peace & Love."
Starr first played drums with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, a Liverpool band who were contemporaries of the Beatles, before joining The Beatles in 1962. He has built an extensive solo career since the band officially split up in 1970. His many recordings include “Beaucoups of Blues,” “Sentimental Journey,” “Ringo” and more recently “Ringo 2012.”
