Reggie Bullock declares for NBA Draft
North Carolina junior Reggie Bullock has declared for the NBA Draft.
“I am ready to take the next step in my career," the Kinston native said in a statement released by UNC Tuesday.
Bullock averaged 13.9 points and 6.5 rebounds a game this past season and was named to the all-ACC second team by both the media and the coaches. He has good size for a wing player (6-7) and a versatile skill set – he shot a team-high 43.6 percent from 3-point range, plays solid defender and led the Tar Heels in rebounding in nine of their final 10 games after the team went to a smaller lineup.
Still, he is not projected to be a first-round pick, which means he may not receive a guaranteed contract.
"He was our most consistent player this season, was productive on both ends of the floor and gave us great leadership," UNC coach Roy Williams said in a release. "Our hope is that his decision will work out in a very positive manner for Reggie. He has big dreams and we will help him and support him in his efforts to reach those dreams."
With Hairston coming back and Bullock leaving, sophomore forward James Michael McAdoo is the only UNC player who hasn’t announced his decision. The NBA’s deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft is April 28.
Leslie McDonald, who could take Bullock’s spot in the starting lineup, will be the only senior on the team next season.
Bullock spent the morning accepting congratulations from current and former UNC athletes over Twitter.
Sophomore running back Giovani Bernard, who decided in December to leave school for the NFL, wrote to Bullock: “Congrats my dude. Tell everyone (you’re just) dreamchasing. … Good luck the rest of the way.”
Former UNC point guard Kendall Marshall, who also turned pro as a sophomore after last season, wrote: “SO excited for (Bullock) being able to follow his dream. … Let the journey begin.”
Sophomore guard P.J. Hairston, who weighed leaving for the NBA before deciding last week to return to UNC, wrote: “Some things are just meant to be at a certain time for certain people. … Congrats to my bro (Bullock) still my brother for life regardless. Follow your dream!”
