Man charged with shooting two teens
Durham police investigators have charged Thomas Deangelo Griffin with shooting two teens Tuesday afternoon on Grace Lane.
Griffin, 19, of Morehead Avenue was arrested this morning at No. 3 Grace Lane by investigators and members of the Police Department’s Violent Incident Response Team. Griffin, who is charged with two counts of attempted murder, was placed in Durham County Jail under a $1 million bond.
Officers were dispatched shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to a shooting call in the 500 block of Liberty Street. When they arrived, they found two teens – 14 and 16 years old – who had been shot and seriously injured. Officers learned that the teens had been shot inside a vacant house at No. 4 Grace Lane.
Both teens remain hospitalized.
The shooting does not appear to be random, according to investigators. Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael indicated that investigators are "looking into the possibility" that the shooting of the boys on Tuesday was related to the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Patrick Danial Holmes the night before on Fidelity Drive.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. K. Johnson at (919) 560-4281, ext. 29118 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
