East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill has been closed since early this morning, and will not reopen until sometime this afternoon, according to Chapel Hill police. Both east and west bound lanes have been blocked to all vehicular traffic from Boundary Street to Estes Drive.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. , police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a power pole that had been knocked down causing outages in the immediate area. Franklin Street has been closed due to power lines in the roadway.

Utility crews are on scene working to restore power, and to remove lines from the roadway.

Police said at mid-morning that Franklin Street will not be reopened until sometime this afternoon.
