Durham police on Wednesday reported that someone broke into an officer's home on Tuesday and stole items including Durham Police Department uniforms, a Taser and other law-enforcement items. The officer's firearm, badge and radio weren't taken. Thieves also took a puppy, jewelry and electronics.

All police employees are required to carry city-issued photo identification. Police officials recommend that anyone unsure about an officer's identity ask to see that identification. People can also call 911 or a police supervisor to verify an officer's identity.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Investigator J. Walsh at 919-560-4582, ext. 29248, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
