Police: Call 911 for accidents with injuries, wait to report others

Feb. 12, 2014 @ 03:21 PM

Police departments in Durham and Chapel Hill on Wednesday reported a high volume of calls for police services due to severe weather.

As a result, they're asking that motorists only call 911 for accidents involving injuries. Accidents resulting in only property damage can be filed at a later date, after the weather has ended.

If an accident with damage and no injuries occurs, drivers should exchange vehicle, driver and insurance information.

Those who need to file a report in Durham should call the emergency communications center at 919-560-4601.

In Chapel Hill, contact the police department starting on Thursday at 919-968-2760.
