Durham police are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning near North Duke Street and Horton Road.

Numerous shots were fired at an SUV driven by an adult male, police said. The SUV then collided with a Toyota sedan traveling westbound on Horton Road.

Police gave this account:

The impact knocked the Toyota into a power pole, causing the pole to break. The SUV went into a yard and struck a tree.

The driver of the SUV, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been shot at least once. The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

No charges have been filed.
