Durham school bus struck in accident
Several students aboard a Durham Public Schools bus were treated for minor injuries Thursday after an SUV collided with the bus.
The accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Bacon and Lawson streets.
“The SUV went into the intersection and collided with the bus, causing the SUV to overturn,” said Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department.
The driver also sustained minor injuries, Michael said.
Bus No. 613 carried a total of 31 students, said DPS spokesman Chip Sudderth. Most attended Pearsontown Elementary School, while one came from Burton Elementary.
A different bus was dispatched to take home students who weren’t held for treatment or medical evaluation, he said.
The accident remained under investigation late Thursday.
