HILLSBOROUGH -- The average child doesn't have the original "Halloween" on the favorite movie list. But the typical kid doesn't hang coffins on the Christmas tree, either.
Kenny Caperton was that kid, the one who loved horror films from the day he could walk.
"Most people have a blanket they carry around," said Caperton, now 27. "I carried around a Dracula doll."
And of all things scary, Caperton fell in love with the 1978 "Halloween's" Michael Myers.
"His blank pale face just kind of stuck with me as a kid," he said.
It stuck with Caperton into adulthood, too, and now the horror movie buff will celebrate Halloween -- the holiday -- with a party at his own replica of the Michael Myers house.
"You build a life-size replica of the Myers house, people are just going to flock to your house on Halloween," he said. "So why not have a Halloween party?"
The first Myers House Halloween Bash starts at 7:30 on Oct. 31 and lasts until death, or midnight. It's also free and open to the public, though Caperton said donations are welcome.
The party will begin with a tour of the Myers House NC and proceed with a Michael Myers costume contest, a raffle of "Halloween" memorabilia and an autograph signing by the Mormon brothers from the movie "The Strangers": Alex Fisher and Peter Clayton-Luce.
And, of course, an outdoor big screen showing of the original "Halloween I" and "Halloween II."
"We're just going to go big the first year," Caperton said.
But big doesn't mean crazy, he said. While the party discourages the attendance of children, Caperton said he envisioned a more family friendly event and less of a college house party.
"It's not a total bash," he said. "It's more focused on Halloween. We all love Halloween."
In fact, Caperton loves the movie so much he decided to shoot a fan tribute film called "Judith," the trailer of which will show at the party. The 25- to 30-minute film, professionally produced and starring Fisher from "The Strangers" as well as an actress from "The Notebook," focuses on a side story of the character Judith from "Halloween," who lived in the Myers household.
"You sleep in Judith's bedroom every night," Caperton said. "I just got these ideas. I started writing something down."
Part of the inspiration for the film came from other people traveling to the house to shoot their own fan horror movies.
"I wanted to have something of my own to show people when they come visit," Caperton said.
And people come from far and wide, even in the few months since Caperton and his girlfriend, Emily Currier, moved into the house in March. "Halloween" has a huge following because it's such a classic, Caperton said.
"There's something about it," he said. "You can still watch it, with the music and the mask. That's the reason why it's 2009 and they're still making Halloween films. They're trying to keep it real, and it's still one of the scariest franchises out there after 31 years."
